Litha

June 21st, the God as Sun is high in the sky and at his strongest and the Goddess as Earth is pregnant with fruits of their union at Beltane. This is Midsummer, the summer solstice, also know as Litha. It is time to prepare for the upcoming harvests. It is also time to prepare our own harvests too, giving to those in need of our help or those who have helped us.

The Sun is at the highest latitude producing the years longest day. The earth is alive with its natural scents and sounds as birds and insects frequent to our gardens. During the day we celebrate the Sun, often building bonfires (symbolizing the Sun) and leaping over them.

As the day is at its longest, the night is at its shortest. On Midsummer’s Night our gardens full of fairies. As they tend to our spiritual guidance and joy, we pay homage to them as well.

My eclectic path includes a touch of Druid. On Midsummer Druids celebrate the great war between the Oak King and the Holly King where the Holly King takes over as the Sun begins its Waning.

For those living in or traveling to the UK, this is a great time to visit Stonehenge. In recent years the grounds were open to legitimate religious worship. Friends have shared photographs and stories from past pilgrimages. If you are there it is the place to go.
